FROM MY WISCONSIN FAMILY

LARRY'S MESSAGE FOR OTHER COMING VISITORS!!!

I would highly recommend the Rafa as a guide when in Brazil. We spent parts of 3 days with him this Spring and had a great time. There are several reasons why I thought he was such a good guide. First, he is fun loving and has a great sense of humor. He would be fun to spend time with even if you were not in Rio. His tours take advantage of opportunities that present themselves...eg feeding local monkeys bananas, or having a snack with the locals downtown. Second, he has a very broad knowledge of everything going on in Rio....stuff that could not possibly covered in tour books. We were interested in music and he gave us good recommendations on where to go and where to avoid. He also took us up to the Cristo via backroads that gave a spectacular alternative view of the city and of Corcovado. These roads were all but deserted. Finally he is flexible. If the weather is not good or someone is tired, the tour can be altered without problems. Rafa also has a great camera and took fantastic pics for us..... many of which he posed and arranged. They are some of our most memorable memories of Rio!

Sincerely,
Lawrence Platt

CARIOCAS' SHOWER

Carol is part of the wonderful Platts family, she came to Brazil with her parents Mimi and Larry to see her brother Ryan whi is living in the beautiful and unknown state of Minas Gerais. Actually Ryan is one of the most brazilian american fellow I know! :)

She is now one of the members of the BRAZILIAN FANS COMMUNITY because last March she was baptized in the biggest urban forest in the World, the Floresta da Tijuca. This forest is simply the best sample of environment preservation of the Atlantic Forest in the country!!!

Carol could not resist and had such a refreshing natural shower in the woods of Rio de Janeiro, and she had the chance to see much more of Rio, a Rio where real locals go, a Rio for brazilians.

Carol, Mimi, Larry and Ryan be sure that you are always welcome here and I am here waiting for another brazilian adventure!!!

Thank you for being so great people!!!

MY COUSINS FROM CUBA - LOS PRIMOS!!!!!

I am very fortunate with my work because I have the chance to meet so many special people, some of them stays forever in the heart, some of them become so special that they are now part of my life, part of my personal history, part of my family.

The are jewels of Cuba, and it is so amazing that Cuba hasn't got any little idea that they have such a wonderful treasure. but who cares???? They are treasure to my life, they are treasure to my people and they are now part of Brazil.

The States are now proud to have these incredible people called Alex and Barbara in their territory because they just bring happiness and very high energy to prove that USA also have endless good values. USA must be happy to have so many people ready to provide joy and lots of fun to any one in the World, and MY COUSINS are one of these special people!!

We had very few time to see everything, but I put everything in few days, long enough for them to see the best of Rio, long enough for them to understand how unique Brazil is, long enough for them to get two brazilian cousins, me and Marcone, and now we are a family!!!

We had travelled the past and the present, and thanks to that, we are now planning the future. Brazil will be a small country comparing to many other plans we have to make a difference either in Brazil, USA or Cuba.

These 3 places remains in our hearts forever!!!

ALEX, BARBARA, MARCONE AND RAFAEL can be considered AS ONE. We are united with so much love and respect!!!

Rio becomes more interesting and speechless beautiful when we welcome people like them!

THANKS ALOT TO HAVE GIVEN US EVEN MORE "AZUCAR" TO OUR LIVES!!! MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!

LONG LIFE TO RUSSIA!!! IRINA AND VITALY!!!!

First I have to thank to my previous russian guests and specially Irina to have promote my tours even before our tour started!!!

Yes, they were all talking about me during the trip from New York to Rio, and I met this sweet couple at our Airport Tom Jobim here in Rio.

We scheduled our tour for the first week of may!!!

They are a sweet couple who love enjoying life and VITALY is a radical fan of football!!! but they just have seen beautiful things and nothing better than Irina and Vitaly to tell people what they experienced here!!! I am just honored to have met such a great couple!!!

They were attending a poker content in São Conrado and at the end of the tournament I had the chance to show the best of Rio, and I did. From arts to nature, from futball to beaches they saw everything.

They could see the unknown western beaches of Rio, the private beach of Joatinga, the Tijuca Forest and the temple...THE MARACANÃ STADIUM!!!

They left Rio leaving behind a TASTE FOR MORE!!! And they are welcome here any time!!

They had loooooots of fun here...our tours had a lot of adventures and THOUSAND OF PICTURES!!!

Food were also a very important issue during this trip!!! They have for sure a lot to tell to anyone who are willing to come to South America and I will always be here to provide the best of Rio!

THE RUSSIANS REALLY LOVE ME!!!

Now very recently I had the chance to meet Taty, Sergei, Isabel and Irina, we were planning their adventures in Rio with some days in advance, so when they came we had a lots of fun!!! They live in New York and Chicago. I specially prepare these tours in Rio, these tours that we see everything...what is really A MUST SEE ATTRACTION and also places where only cariocas go.

They had lots of curiosity to see everything and they were really into social life and they want to know how brazilian people live!

In the photo, we had our first meal in a very local and traditional bar in Santa Tereza, our bohemian neighborhood!!!

We went to a very interesting museum in the west part of the city, the famous Casa do Pontal, the biggest private collection of Popular Arts..which I strongly recommend to anyone coming to Rio.

These people are here to experience real life, and that was everything they had!

I was their guide and their PHOTOGRAPHER...Isabel will always remember our PHOTOGRAPHY MOMENTS in Rio!!!

We just proved that Rio deserves a second visit!!! And they will bring more people!!!

They have good taste (apart from choosing me as a tour guide, of course, hahahaha ) they also planned a trip to Iguazu Falls and the Pantanal!!!!

It is always a honor to welcome so nice and clever people and offer the best of my land, and they really deserve to be registered in my blog!!!

FOLKS BE SURE THAT YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME IN MY COUNTRY!!!

You just have a friend in Rio de Janeiro!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!

THE RUSSIANS LOVE ME!!!

I am very proud to be chosen by the Russian Community in the States...I do not know why but they found me, and they come, the come quite often!!! We are people who loves to smile and get to know new places...they are people hungry for travelling and there is nothing better for me than showing them what Rio really looks like!!! We had a blast during all the days in Rio and Buzios!!!

Here I dedicate a little space for these wonderful friends that made HISTORY in my career, and thanks to them I know I will have more dear people from Russia. People who are living in the States and make this country even more interesting, and hopefully people coming directly from Moscow and other cities of Russia too!!

GUEST'S COMMENTS - LINDA HEAD - LOUISIANA

My husband and I recently spent two beautiful days and one fun filled night with the most amazing, humorous person, Rafael Torres Lopes. We have been blessed to travel to numerous places around the world. Rio de Janeiro, by far, has the most gorgeous natural beauty of any place we’ve traveled. The absolute best way to see the most special places in Rio is with Rafael. I am omitting some of what we did for the sake of space. The first place we went to was the fishing village of Niteroi across the bridge from Rio. It appeared that we were the only tourists there. We met some friendly fishermen with lovely smiles that invited us on their fishing boat. The boat was small for the four or five men that would spend nearly a week at sea!

As we were walking along the street Rafael pointed out an old, interesting bar. The owner, an elderly man motioned for us to come inside the small place. He insisted on frying us some complimentary codfish balls. (Rafael could tell a funny story about me concerning the codfish balls) They were delicious! He filled a shot glass with the potent cachaca liquor. We finally had to say enough! The kind man was thrilled to have us foreigners stop by his humble place.

Rafael took us to a spot that has gorgeous views, as beautiful as those from Sugarloaf or Christ the Redeemer. It is where he jumps off of when he hand glides. We could see Sugarloaf, different neighborhoods, and beautiful beaches.

Rafael took us to beaches where only the locals go. They were just as lovely as the more famous beaches in Rio but without crowds. At another place we stood on hills of granite and looked over at children playing in the water and on the white shimmering beach.

We went to a Restaurant that had a large assortment of native foods. Rafael explained what the dishes were. I’ve never eaten food as good as this!

We needed a piece of luggage. Only Rafael would turn shopping for luggage into an experience! He took us to what I think was a black market in Rio. He said, don’t speak English. We did our best to look like a Brasileiros. Rafael secretly took a picture of us there. I would have been somewhat fearful if I had no confidence in Rafael. There was a sexy looking young woman singing with a band. Three little girls were dancing to the lively music. There were little huts selling beer and food. Further down the walkway were the goods. There were items for sale at much lower price than downtown.

Rafael finally took us to our Hotel, in his very nice vehicle, ten hours after picking us up that morning. At 11:00 p.m. Rafael came back for us and drove us to Lapa to a club called Carioca da Gema, where beautiful people listened and danced to the incredible musical rhythms of the samba. We were fortunate to be there this night because Luiza Dionisio was performing. She is an incredible performer as well as a sweet and friendly person. Rafael bought us a tasty drink called Caipirinhas. I must admit it went to my head, but I had a blast! My husband and I did our best samba. Rafael’s friend, Marcone, joined us. The four of us had so much fun. It was like getting crazy with life long friends. I could have stayed there the rest of the night but the guys were getting hungry. We went to an open air arena where there were crafts, music, and restaurants. We had a delicious meal there. There were no tourists, only the interesting people of Rio! We were treated as one too. We got back to the Hotel at 3:00 a.m. We told Rafael we would like to sleep late. He picked us up at noon.

The second day Rafael took us to a Park near Sugarloaf. Rio families spend many leisure hours at this jungle looking area with cliffs overlooking a large body of water. Rafael was prepared in case we saw a certain animal. We weren’t disappointed. During our walk we came upon a tree full of monkeys! They ate bananas out of Rafael’s hand! Later, we went to the Botanical Gardens. Breath taken array of luscious plants filled the many acres. We saw a colorful Toucan as well as a few more monkeys. After dining at another favorite local Restaurant, Rafael took us to meet some special people in their home. It was there where we started to feel like part of his family.

It was evening now. We walked along the famous Copacabana Beach as well as others. By the way, Rafael can recommend a beautiful place to stay with a spectacular view at a reasonable price! It was time for Rafael to take us to the airport. Another thing I should mention is his price is no more than what one would pay for traveling with a bus full of tourists seeing touristy places.

Of course, do all the musts in Rio like Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf. However, for an added dimension, see Rio de Janeiro or any other tours Rafael offers for a one of a kind experience. Rafael had us e-mail him our likes/interests. He tailor made our itinerary for us. He’ll do the same for you.

During the plane ride home, the beauty of Rio filled my mind. However, the real jewel that belongs to Rio is Rafael Torres Lopes! SIMPLY THE BEST!

Linda Head from Louisiana

P.S. Don’t give the OK sign in Brazil. Rafael will tell you why!

THE SECRETS OF RIO - GREAT NIGHT LIFE!!!

CARIOCA is the name give to Rio's locals...I am Carioca because I was born and raised in this city. When you come from Rio you will always carry a great passion just for the fact that you were born here and you will always be very proud of your homeland, proud of your people, proud of your culture!!! And sharing the secrets of the place you really know always will give a plus to your friends and guests. ALWAYS!!!!!

Linda and Leon, my so dear guests from Louisiana could have a real flavor of our culture,, they went to a very genuine SAMBA HOUSE where you will really understand how magnificent our SAMBA is. I took them to see what real music is, Marcone, my fantastic friend and efficient tour partner also joined us and we had a blast!

We went to Carioca da Gema...one of the SAMBA TEMPLES in Rio, right located in the heart of Lapa and where we only hear the greatest voices of brazilian Carnaval.

We had lots of fun and right at the night we went there...the incredible Rio's singer LUIZA DIONIZIO was performing and she was more than kinder to talk to us and be in the picture with us!!!

It was a night impossible to forget!!!

NIGHT IN RIO??? LAPA OF COURSE!!!

No doubt you have to go to Lapa!!! :) Paris has Marais...Buenos Aires has Santelmo, Manhattan has East Village, Montreal has Sainte Catherine Street..And RIO HAS LAPA!!!

Lapa has been since the very beggining of our funny history a bohemian place where everybody from the poorest to the richest go to enjoy life, to laugh, to have drinks, to dance and also to live the city!!!

It is a very old neighborhood packed with people in the weekends!

And the most beautiful very old houses are there, and most of them are real SAMBA HOUSES!!!

So, if you want to feel the soul of Rio and see real locals and beautiful faces (always ready for great adventures)...LAPA IS THE BEST PLACE IN TOWN FOR TONS OF FUN!!!!

I will gladly give you much more hottest info when you write to my personal email: donrafainrio@yahoo.es
