SOME WISDON WORDS FROM DALLAS

Robert, is the lucky husband of my friend and everlasting guest Cappie....
They are the ROYALTIES of Texas....NO BUSH FAMILY...NO BIG BOSS OF THE TRADITIONAL TEXAS BLACK OIL....
Cappie and Robert mean to me much more than anyone in Texas and the whole country of the United States of America...THEY ARE MY KINGS....And as their immediate former Prime Minister I will say (sorry my ENGLISH FRIENDS), but Cappie is way more interesting than LIZ....and yes....HIS HIGHNESS ROBERT ADDISON is way more funny than Prince Phillip....WELL, they got the SPICY!!!!
And believe me my friends, Rafael and Marcone simply love you!!!! YOU TWO ARE EVERYTHING NICE AND GORGEOUS IN THIS WORLD!!!!
As I could see your adventure in Rio remained in your memories, heart and soul....YOU COULD SEE EVERYTHING ABOUT IN RIO AND SEEING YOU AT THE SAMBA SCHOOL IS SOMETHING THAT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER....And not to mention that you have made me prepare the best and most important BREAKFAST table in my life!!!!
BUT....THE KING OF TEXAS...ROBERT....decided to write his reviews about the time he spent here and very proudly I copy below....
"Looking for the very BEST tour guide (and friend) in Brazil? Contact Rafa (hereinafter, the “Prime Minister”). My wife, Cappie, an experienced travel consultant by occupation, and I, Robert Addison, had the good fortune to find and employ the PRIME MINISTER as our guide on our recent trip to South America. We spent nine days and nights with the PRIME MINISTER, touring Rio and other nearby sites, such as the beautiful island of Ilha Grande and the charming colonial village of Paraty. His Brazilian fun loving spirit is contagious and soon you are not touring, but you are visiting your best friend who is merely showing you some of his favorite places, and what great places! The PRIME MINISTER is very knowledgeable about the history of Brazil and its many sites. You will feel you have not only seen the material sites of the area, but now understand their historical significance. If you wish, you can visit venues where you will be the only tourist - just tell the PRIME MINISTER and you will be there. You will never regret employing THE PRIME MINISTER as your personal guide. He can be reached at donrafainrio@yahoo.es or visit his blog at donrafaguestsinrio.blogspot.com/. "
Sincerely,
Robert Addison
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE LOVE, CONFIDENCE AND FRIENDSHIP.SOUTH AMERICA, BRAZIL, RIO DE JANEIRO, NITEROI, ILHA GRANDE, MARCONE, MOTHER STELLA, JAKOB TOKSVIG AND RAFAEL TORRES LOPES ARE HONORED TO HAVE ROBERT AND CAPPIE IN OUR FAMILY AND LIVES.

AN ISLAND MORE THAN BIG - A BIG DREAM IN YOUR TRIP!!!!

Among many paradises in Brazil I guess Ilha Grande is one of the most magnificent secret in the country. Ilha Grande means "big island"...Well, not only I would say it is big, the best name for it is THE DREAM ISLAND....OH YES...YOU DREAM ABOUT PARADISE and the Paradise is there!!!!
Going there is something very special for me....
Most of my happiest moments were spent in Ilha Grande...
Luckly Ilha Grande became part of my tours and a great surprise for all people who come to Rio...BELIEVE ME, RIO IS MUCH MORE THAN COPACABANA, BUNDAS AND MULATTAS...
We still have places so untouchable that it remains hidden since the time of the first portuguese conquerors!!!
PEOPLE WITH CONQUEROR SOUL WILL LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!
Again....my Jacques Custeau's side SCREAMS THERE!!! Lots of wild life, many birds, many monkeys, many spectacular landscapes waiting for the next visitor!!!
YOU CAN BE THE ONE!!!!
ILHA GRANDE IS REALLY A PLACE TO VISIT WHEN YOU COME TO RIO WITH TIME!!!!

A COUPLE FROM RED LION THAT I FULLY ADMIRE

I cannot say that they got to Brazil just like the same navegators from the Ocean because nowadays we do have modern planes in spite of the food and the tight tiny seats...
But she came here with the same curiosity that Charles Darwin had when he came here to see the lands that once his friends in England had talked about...
And she had someone here...a very nice companior and fantastic partner...her very loyal and beloved husband BOB...
He is not famous like our BRAZILIAN BOB'S, but he is a superstar at Dara's life and a very good friend of mine and I was honored to be here and show them that RIO can be easily done with not a problem, with lots of fun and lots of incredible places to discover!!!!
THE CRUISE SHIP INSIGNIA were their home during most of the days they spent in Carioca's land...and me with my RAFAMOBILE went everywhere to show them what to do in the mainlands..
FIRST STOP WAS IN RIO....ohhhhhhh Rio...famous Rio, famous for its beacheas, famous for its beauty and endless gorgeous nature, famous also for some social problems that now it is way more controlled..Rio is not dangerous like it used to be before that even to a PARTY AT FAVELA they went!!! And I was here and also Marcone to prove that RIO loves DARA and BOB, and that RIO WILL BE HONORED TO WELCOME ALL OF AMERICANS, because Rio has RAFA and MARCONE.
SECOND STOP WAS IN BUZIOS...well...RAFAMOBILE woke up a little bit naughty...so I could not be present in our famous resort, but I promptly arranged THE BUZIANA CREW to do the honors, and they did properly!!!
BUT I WAS IN THE THIRD STOP IN ILHA GRANDE...my fave spot in Rio, my best tour destination where all my guests have a blast; also my resting corner...And I had a short time to do something special, but we decided to take a boat and head to LOPES MENDES BEACH, he trekked in the forest, we saw a ,lot of wild life and we found out some little paradises...Palmas Beach is one of them...
The ship went away..continue its way to Paraty...our most precious colonial town...a place full of wild islands and lots of history, telling us how incredible our HISTORY is, and also making us to understand how Brazil became a grand Nation!!!
But really grand are this adventurous friends Dara and Bob which one day they will be back!!! BECAUSE IN RIO THEY LEFT A REAL FRIENDS!!!!
Long life to you Dara...and long life to you Bob...
Hope your memories always come to this side of the ocean!!!
WE ALL ADORE YOU...

A TRIBUTE FOR A WONDERFUL PERSON AND GREAT GUIDE

Everyone says that he is my pupil...well in a way it is true...but he had conquered many goals by his own effort and goodwill. One of them was studying tourism to be a tour guide, because even before that, he was a great help in my research for new destinations in the Amazon and the great supporter to promote Maranhão in the international scenery.

EIGHT MONTHS STUDYING IN ONE OF THE BEST TOURISM SCHOOL IN RIO made him a great tour guide, and he had some important experiences. Lots of walking tours with my american guests (NOTE: I ONLY GIVE MY GUESTS TO PEOPLE THAT I HIGHLY TRUST), in our old districts, giving precise and cool information about our past and about our present. I conducted many other guests from USA, HOLLAND, GERMANY all over Rio and Niteroi. With me, we struggled very hard to develop partnership with important tourism business contacts in Europe. His charisma is contagious, he makes people smile easily with his informal way to make Rio their own home, he is a sweet person with a lot of knowledge!!!

I know that many people say that they had a baby as a guide...but in spite of that face of a teenager you can find many years of hard work in many english schools, studying nursing and many tourism projected that carry his personal signature.

Just like me, Marcone is a guide not worry to follow protocols, he is the one that any visitor will feel like a friend and someone to rely on.

So my tribute and a Xmas message goes to him...

I know that he is now in Maranhão meeting his roots and spent such a important dagte with his dearest ones, and he was there to get more inspiration to get one more remarkable year.

EVERYWHERE HE GOES, AND IT CAN BE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE OF MARANHÃO, EVERYWHERE HERE IN RIO, IN ANY PLACE OF SÃO PAULO AND EVEN IN THE FAR DISTANT PLACES IN ARGENTINA...MARCONE JUST LEAVES HIS HEART IN THE MEMORY OF EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO MEETS HIM.

His heart is now in my life because I have the privilege to share not only my work but many things in life because we live in the same place in our "cosmopolitan Copacabana". He is my great colleague and my solid "right arm", fantastic friend and spectacular professional!!! A real FIGHTER for life!!!

Marcone is not afraid to take the life as it comes and he will always be positive!!!

We all love him and his future guests will be very fortunate to get to know Brazil by Marcone's eyes...

LET THE WORLD WELCOME ANOTHER GREAT TOUR GUIDE!!!

I am sure that Brazil has a incredible ambassador because there are really few genuine brazilians like he is!!! Marcone has BRAZIL in his soul and his love for the country will make him one of the best Brazil's promoter in this planet!

MY EIGHT YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE TOURISM AREA allows me to be sure that we have an excellent progessional!!!
You can write to him and see if he is available, his email address is marconelima@yahoo.co.uk

FANTASTIC WORDS FROM MISSOURI - USA

December 17, 2008

Hello! My name is Sandi Maier, and I live in Jefferson City, Missouri, USA. I’m 37 years old, and traveling is my one true passion. (Cardinals Baseball is a close second!) lol!

I recently had the pleasure to take a journey through South America for a period of about four weeks. I spent time in Peru, Chile, Argentina, the Falkland Islands, Uruguay, and Brazil. If I had it to plan over again, I would have allowed many more days for Brazil. I am so glad, though, that I had at least a little taste, to whet my appetite for a return visit in the future. I rarely repeat a destination in my travels, as my budget only allows for one trip a year, and there are so many places in the world to visit. But Brazil is definitely worthy of returning. The brief time I had there included one day at the awe-inspiring Iguazu Falls, and two days in lovely Rio de Janeiro.

I was lucky enough to make contact with Rafael “Rafa” Torres during the planning stages of my trip. During some research, I learned that Rafa is a well-respected and much sought-after tour guide for all areas of Brazil. His home is in Rio, and Rio is where I was specifically hoping to hire a guide. Rafa’s replies to my many e-mails were always timely and filled with helpful information and advice. But the best part about communicating with Rafa was seeing his love for Rio and Brazil shine through. I could sense his genuine excitement at the chance to share some of his beloved country with someone like me, who had never set foot there before. I think it is truly rare to find a tour guide with that kind of passion and dedication for his work.

So arrangements were finalized for my very brief visit to Rio. Rafa had many different suggestions on how to spend my time. Looking back, I wish I would have planned to have him show me Rio by night. (Next time!) But as it was, I decided a day time visit would better serve my purpose. Rafa came up with an itinerary that really made the most of my time, to show me as much as possible.

Fast forward several months. I finally arrived in Rio (December 12th), which was the final stop on my 4-week journey. Some personal circumstances arose that I thought might prevent me from spending the day with Rafa. And I really was feeling a bit distraught about it. But when Rafa came to pick me up at my hotel at our arranged time, we sat and talked about my situation, a solution was found, and the day was saved! Thank you, Rafa! A problem solver, as well as an expert tour guide!

One thing I quickly discerned about Rafa from meeting in person was his wicked-sharp sense of humor. In our e-mail communications I could tell he was a bright and fun guy to be around. But in person, I found the humor to be the cherry on top of the sundae. Much laughter will ensue for anyone who spends time with Rafa.

And for the Americans out there, I think you will be very pleased with Rafa’s grasp of our culture, and his ability to bridge it to his own (which is very diverse, by the way). He translates not just the language differences you will encounter, but also the day-to-day way of life of Brazillians, explaining all the way. Rafa is a traveler himself. He shared some entertaining and enlightening stories about his own experiences across the world. I especially enjoyed listening to his tales as he was driving us from place to place.

Speaking of going place to place, Rafa always has a plan B or C. If the clouds are hanging low around Christ the Redeemer at the moment you are approaching, or if a traffic jam is causing delay to your route, there will be a way around it until the timing is right. As it were, the timing of our day went very well. Rafa will also take you places far from the proverbial beaten path, and you will be thankful for it. From hidden waterfalls in the forest, to a private, undisturbed section of seashore you can have all to yourself. And the visit to a local street market was a nice surprise, as well. Do yourself a favor and indulge in the sugar cane juice! If you are extremely lucky, you just might get to meet Rafa’s mom. It almost happened for me, and I was sure ready to give her a big hug for raising such a great son. But unfortunately, the lovely Estella was indisposed at the time we were near, and the meeting was not able to happen. Next time, Estella. Next time!
And lastly, if you have the time to enjoy a meal with Rafa, he will take you to a fantastic restaurant in Niteroi that only the locals frequent. It was a true treat, and a fabulous way to end the day. (Niteroi is a special place in itself, by the way. Some amazing views from a very special place there. Rafa will show you, trust me.)
I almost forgot to mention Rafa’s photography skills. He has the eye and a steady hand for framing that perfect shot. As a bit of a shutterbug myself, I appreciate that skill very much! Bottom line, Rafa will bend over backwards (literally!) to make sure you get your shot.

Another thing worth mentioning…. Rafa’s driving is top notch. I felt very comfortable as his passenger, and at times it was a bit of a thrill. Come on…. don’t we all crave a little bit of speed now and then? I know I do. lol! Rafa’s car is new and very well kept, and roomy enough for a group of 4 or 5.

Well, I believe that is a fair representation of my experience with Rafa in Rio. As I said earlier, I rarely repeat a travel destination. But you can be assured that I will return to Brazil and take advantage of Rafael Torres’ expertise and genuine passion for showing the best she has to offer. I look very forward to seeing more of Rio itself, and also a visit to the Amazon region.

Anyone reading this, please feel free to contact me by e-mail if you have questions about my experience. I am always happy to talk to a fellow traveler! Idnas71@yahoo.com
Sincerely,

Sandi Maier,
